Special Charters - Mad Hatters Tea Party

Many of our trips follow the same stretch of river that inspired the first telling of the classic story of Alice in Wonderland.

In celebration of this enduring and fantastic tale we are delighted to offer Mad Hatters Tea Parties on board our classic river launches. If you have ever dreamt of taking a bite out of an ‘Eat me’ cake, or gulping down ‘drink me’ tea while gliding down the river looking out for that mysterious white rabbit this trip could be for you. Onboard we provide a sumptuous tea party with tea, freshly made sandwiches, cakes, and indulgent scones with clotted cream and jam.

Special Charters - Literary History

Working with local author and historian Mark Davies (external link) we offer several guided cruises and walks along the Thames and the Oxford Canal.

Mark is able to give illustrated talks on a number of local themes - waterways, historical crime, and literature. He brings to life the stories behind some of Oxford most celebrated novels, including, of course, Alice in Wonderland.

Special Charters - Wedding Receptions

Many beautiful churches and hotels lie on the banks of Thames and nothing could be more romantic than arriving at your service or wedding reception in Oxford by river launch.

Beautiful churches at Binsey and Iffley Village and reception venues on Port Meadow, in Oxford City, Sandford and elsewhere are all within Oxford River Cruises area of operation. River pick up points are conveniently located for Oxford Town Hall and Tidmarsh Lane Registry Office.

Serafina II is an excellent reception venue and can host wedding receptions for up to 40 people. As well as being an unusual, romantic venue she is also surprisingly cost effective compared to the hire of marquees or hotels.

The Mole waggled his toes from sheer happiness, spread his chest with a sigh of full contentment, and leaned back blissfully into the soft cushions. `What a day I'm having!' he said. 'Let us start at once!' 'Hold hard a minute, then!' said the Rat. He looped the painter through a ring in his landing-stage, climbed up into his hole above, and after a short interval reappeared staggering under a fat, wicker luncheon-basket. 'Shove that under your feet,' he observed to the Mole, as he passed it down into the boat. Then he untied the painter and took the sculls again. 'What's inside it?' asked the Mole, wriggling with curiosity. 'There's cold chicken inside it,' replied the Rat briefly; 'coldtonguecoldhamcoldbeefpickled gherkinssaladfrenchrollscresssandwich espottedmeatgingerbeerlemonade sodawater - ' 'O stop, stop,' cried the Mole in ecstacies: 'This is too much!'

If you are interested in the history of the Thames and its connections to some of Oxford's best known literature then you will find the commentary of our historian, Mark Davies, fascinating.  Mark is a published author with unsurpassed knowledge of Oxford's waterways.  Discos, steel bands and karaoke are popular for those organising a wedding reception or larger boat party.
